History of Bluebird Airways
Bluebird Airways was founded in 2008. Initially it had a fleet of small single-engine aircraft and in 2010 it obtained its operating licence from the Civil Aviation Authority. It started with aircraft from the Greek company Sky Wings and took delivery of its first privately owned aircraft in late 2010. Bluebird Airways operates mainly charter flights from its base in Heraklion and other Greek islands carrying tourists from Russia, Turkey and Israel to Greece during the summer months.
The Bluebird Airways fleet
Initially the airline used Sky Wings MD-83 aircraft, while in October 2010 it added the first Boeing 737-400 to its fleet (formerly an Olympic aircraft) and today operates flights with a Boeing 737 and chartered aircraft, mainly MD-83s.
Bluebird Airways destinations
On 2 June 2010 Bluebird Airways operated its first regular route (Heraklion – Corfu – Domodedovo). In the summer of 2010 it operated routes from Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu to Moscow (Domodedovo airport) with Sky Wings aircraft. The company currently operates chartered routes. During the summer months it flies from the Greek islands, mainly Heraklion, Rhodes and Kos, to cities in Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Rostov), Israel (Tel Aviv) and Turkey (Istanbul).
