Zakynthos Airport (ZTH)
Zakynthos “Dionysios Solomos” Airport is the international airport of the Greek island of Zakynthos and is located southwest of the island’s capital Zakynthos, northeast of the village of Laganas and north of the village of Kalamaki. The airport was named after the Zakynthos-born poet Dionysios Solomos. It serves both national and international air traffic. This makes it an “airport of entry”. The airport is only used for civil aviation. There is a strict ban on night flights at the airport.
Terminal and airfield
In 1981, a new terminal was built due to high passenger traffic. Another new building followed to increase capacity. There are seven parking spaces for aircraft on the apron. The airport has only one runway (Runway 16/34, north-northwest-southeast orientation). It does not have taxiways parallel to the runway. In the 21st century, no air cargo was handled at Zakynthos Airport, the airport is thus used exclusively for passenger transport.
Operator
In December 2015, the privatisation of Zakynthos Airport and 13 other Greek regional airports was completed with the signing of an agreement between the joint venture between Fraport AG and Copelouzos Group and the state privatisation fund. The concession has a term of 40 years from the date of the takeover of operations on 11 April 2017 and covers the mainland airports of Thessaloniki, Aktion and Kavala, as well as the airports on the islands of Crete (Chania), Kefalonia, Corfu, Kos, Mykonos, Mytilini, Rhodes, Samos, Santorini, Skiathos and Zakynthos.
In spring 2021, Fraport completed renovation work on the terminal. Among other things, the fire service building was rebuilt, five new check-in counters were installed and the control tower was renovated.
