The captain of the aircraft initially requested permission to land at the Turkish airport of Dalaman, but a few minutes later he asked the control tower for permission to land at Diagoras airport in Rhodes, which he did.

There was a great mobilisation on the part of the Rhodes Fire Service and the fire brigade at the airport as there were reports that there was smoke inside the aircraft or at the rear of the aircraft.

All passengers are in good health there is no danger but for safety reasons all measures required by international regulations are being observed. For this reason the aircraft will remain at Rhodes airport until a thorough check is carried out by the engineers, who will decide whether to continue the flight.

I was in the plane, and would like to thank the organization in Rhodes which was perfect. Nobody was injured. Just interesting now how Lufthansa is skipping is obligation of compensation with EU regulation 261/2004 by telling that it was a “Airfield restrictions” issue and now that a passenger was sick (in order to use the “medical emergency” and not pay the compensations).
